Collection: Standard Nguni Hides

Our Standard Nguni Hides collection offers a character-rich and more accessible way to bring genuine South African heritage into your space. It includes hides from our B Grade Superior and B Grade categories, selected for their natural beauty, distinctive patterns and lasting durability.

Each Nguni cow hide carries individual markings shaped by nature and the life of the animal. These may include visible scars, branding marks or professionally repaired areas. Rather than concealing their history, these features give every hide an honest, authentic character that cannot be reproduced. 

Our hides are ethically sourced within South Africa and professionally finished in our own tannery in Dundee, KwaZulu-Natal. They are not imported. Every hide reflects local craftsmanship and the enduring farming heritage associated with South Africa’s Nguni cattle.

Understanding Our Standard Grades

B Grade Superior hides generally have fewer or less prominent natural markings and repaired areas than B Grade hides. Also known as our Hidden Gems, B Grade hides may display more noticeable scars, branding or repairs, giving them a more rustic and individual appearance.

Where repairs are necessary, they are neatly stitched or patched during the finishing process. We do not offer hides with open holes. All our hides receive the same professional tanning and finishing process—the grade reflects the hide’s natural condition rather than a difference in tanning quality.

How Our Hides Are Priced

Standard hides are offered at a more accessible price because they display more visible natural markings than our Premium and Select grades. The individual price is also influenced by the hide’s colour, pattern and rarity, as especially distinctive or sought-after combinations may carry a higher value.

These hides are ideal as floor coverings, wall features, furniture throws or creative décor pieces. Every hide is individually photographed, so the hide shown is the exact one you will receive. Once it is sold, it cannot be duplicated or replaced.
