Everyday Maintenance
Most contaminants — dust, soil, or pet hair — can be removed with a simple brush or broom. Nguni hides are naturally resistant to stains and discoloration. Much like our own hair, their natural oils protect both color and shine, helping liquids “pool” on the surface and making quick clean-ups simple.
Handling Spills
Spills are inevitable over a lifetime, but acting quickly makes all the difference. For liquids, soak up the excess immediately. For more solid materials, carefully scrape with the grain using a blunt edge. A lightly damp cloth or sponge will typically restore your hide to its natural beauty.
For spot cleaning, dampen a cloth or sponge (never soaking wet) and gently rub in the direction of the hair. If water alone isn’t enough, a mild soap or baby shampoo can be used, always applied gently. After cleaning, we recommend applying our Premium Treatment Products to restore natural oils and protect longevity.
Tougher Stains
For more persistent stains — such as pet accidents — the preferred method is steam cleaning, which avoids excessive water and protects the hide. Over-wetting or scrubbing aggressively can damage the leather, so treat this as a last resort. Once the stain is removed, allow the hide to dry naturally, away from direct sunlight.
