Nguni Hide no. BGD4902 is a one-of-a-kind Standard Nguni cow hide featuring creamy white densely scattered with black speckles and spots, with bold black markings through the upper centre and a chestnut brown stripe.

Its natural pattern, colouring and individual markings tell a story that belongs to this hide alone. The hide shown in the product photographs is the exact hide you will receive.

Authentic South African Character

Nguni cattle hides carry the character of South Africa’s landscapes, cattle-farming traditions and natural heritage. This hide has been ethically sourced within South Africa and professionally finished in our own tannery in Dundee, KwaZulu-Natal. It is locally sourced and locally finished—not imported.

Understanding Your Standard Grade

BGS (also known as) B Grade Superior Hides may display visible natural character, such as branding, healed scars, hair variations or other minor imperfections. These markings are generally fewer or less prominent than those found on a B Grade hide.

BGD (also known as) B Grade Hides, also known as our Hidden Gems, may have more noticeable natural markings, branding, scarring, hair variations or small areas that have been carefully stitched or repaired. Any holes are professionally secured during finishing—we do not sell hides with open holes.

Both grades undergo the same careful tanning and finishing process as our other Nguni hides. The grade reflects the hide’s natural condition and visible markings—not a difference in tanning quality or workmanship. For many customers, these markings are part of the hide’s beauty and appeal, adding depth, individuality and a deeper connection to its authentic story. Each marking has been shaped by the animal, the land and South Africa’s farming heritage, making the finished hide genuinely one of a kind.

Why Prices Differ

Each Standard Nguni hide is priced individually according to its grade, the extent of its natural markings or repairs, and the rarity and demand for its particular colour and pattern. An especially striking or sought-after pattern may therefore be priced differently from another hide of the same grade.

These naturally characterful hides offer an accessible way to bring a genuine piece of South African heritage into your home while still receiving a professionally finished, completely unique hide.
